Corrections to the track listing.
ReplyDelete"Only Solutions" is first played in the scene where Alan and Laura visit Flynn's Arcade. This would place "Only Solutions" between "We've Got Company" and "Wormhole". In the film it makes a second appearance as a reprise in "Ending Titles", replacing the second half of that cue.
"1990s Theme" follows "Creation Of TRON"; it plays in the background of the first appearance of Flynn's Arcade.

Now I'm confused. The bonus tracks are not included in the score right? Because TRON Scherzo is in the film but I don't think Anthem For Keyboard Solo is. Making my head hurt. :-)
ReplyDeleteCorrect, the bonus tracks are not included in the score. I haven't seen this film in a long time so if I missed the scherzo, let me know and I can update the list. Regarding the cover art, I got this one from Album Art Exchange. Is there a different version you have?
ReplyDeleteI recognize Scherzo from the film but wasn't sure if that music was included in one of the other tracks with a different name. Thanks for your help. The image I am cleaning up is of the original release. Not as modern as the one you have. I'll toss it your way when I'm done. Take care. :-)

ReplyDelete@Nicolas, aka "Anonymous": "Lightcycle Games" is an unused piece of the score and was intended to play over the lightcycle sequence in the film. In the soundtrack it would be necessary to split "Ring Game / Escape" into two tracks as Lightcycle Games appears after Ring Game and before Escape. I split the track in my copy of the combined soundtrack, but if using Audacity isn't something you want to do, Lightcycle Games would have to appear either following Ring Game / Escape, or be placed after the Ending Titles. "Little Interludes" appears between "Anthem" and "Ending Titles". All other tracks are bonus tracks.

"Tron Scherzo" _does_ appear in the film, though only the second part of it and it's played below Flynn talking. It takes place between "The Light Sailer" and "Sea of Simulation."
ReplyDeleteThe album version of "Only Solutions" only appears after the End Title (where Trinitron was supposed to go). The version that takes place in Flynn's Arcade (source music) has an instrumental part that plays under dialogue. It's called the 12" edit and hasn't been released on any Tron CDs.
The first 36 seconds of "We've Got Company" is actually a track that comes _after_ the remaining 1:35 of the track: It occurs when the MCP pulls Clu back into the wall behind him and, well, you know.
ReplyDeleteJust a few notes: "Tron Scherzo" actually IS in the movie, but not as part of "The Light Sailer." It takes place between "The Light Sailer" and "Sea of Simulation", when Flynn is still hanging from the Solar Sailer Simulation. It's not the whole piece of music, just a portion.
ReplyDelete"Love Theme" plays during a deleted scene from the movie that takes place between "Miracle and the Magician" and "Magic Landings."
"Trinitron" is the name Wendy Carlos gave to the portion of the End Title that was cut when the album version of "Only Solutions" was added.
The version of "Only Solutions" that plays in Flynn's Arcade isn't the one released on either album; it's called the "12" version" which was apparently only available on import vinyl (info from a YouTube video.)
"Water Music" and "Tronaction" are actually two separate songs, though they play end to end in the movie. On the album there's a crossfade between the two, presumably to save time. "The Light Sailer" is also shorter on both albums than in the movie. "A New Tron and the MCP" is three songs cobbled together, but unlike "Water Music and Tronaction" they are all complete. The album version of "Magic Landings" contains material that wasn't used in the film.
There are also several songs in the movie that weren't released at all.
Does anyone know where I can find the MIDI files for the entire Tron 1982 soundtrack? I'd like to do a remake, with a more futuristic, hypnotic sound, combined with an orchestra if possible. I can't find any MIDI files for Tron 1982. I'd like the sound to be similar to Daft Punk's, but still respecting the original essence.
